FAQs About Renting a Suzuki Jimny in Uganda
Still thinking and have so many answers regarding this spacious car and whether its the right option, below are some of the questions with the right answers.
How many people can comfortably fit?
This newly introduced car can sit upto 4 people but if you would like space for your luggage then you will have to fold the rear seats.
Luggage Tip: It is highly recommended to use soft-sided duffel bags rather than hard shell suitcases, as they flex much better into the Jimny’s compact boot space.
2. Can I mount a rooftop tent on a Suzuki Jimny
Yes. Our cars are strong enough and fit for a lightweight, 2-person rooftop tent.
The catch: Because of the Jimny‘s smaller roof payload capacity compared to a Land Cruiser, it can only support one rooftop tent (for 2 people). It cannot support a double rooftop tent setup.
Camping gear: Expect to pay an additional $20 per day for the rooftop tent and accompanying camping gear (mattress, sleeping bags, chairs, table, and gas cooker).
Note: Unlike larger vehicles, the Jimny does not have enough auxiliary power or space to run an electric fridge; you will be supplied with a standard ice cooler box instead.
4. How is the fuel consumption?
This is where the Jimny shines over traditional safari vehicles. It is powered by a 1.5L petrol engine and averages roughly 15 to 16 km per liter on smoother highway stretches). Compared to a heavy Land Cruiser which drinks fuel at a rate of 7 to 9 km per liter, the Jimny will save you a massive amount of money at Ugandan gas stations.
4. Can it handle Uganda’s rough terrain and national parks?
Yes, but within limits. The Jimny is a true, part-time 4WD vehicle with excellent ground clearance. It can effortlessly handle the dirt tracks of Queen Elizabeth National Park, Murchison Falls, and the steep, winding roads leading to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Restriction: Due to its light weight and smaller fuel tank, we do not allow you to drive the Suzuki Jimny further to rugged north—specifically Kidepo Valley National Park or the Karamoja region. If your itinerary includes those remote destinations, you will be required to rent a larger Toyota Land Cruiser.
Can I cross the border into Rwanda or Kenya with it?
Yes. Just like other rental 4x4s, you can take a Jimny across East African borders. However, you must notify us before your arrival so that prepare the necessary cross-border paperwork (such as COMESA insurance and authority letters).
Is it safe to rent a car in Uganda?
Yes. Uganda continues to be a safer destination for all travelers regardless of where you come from as long as you abide to the set regulations and traffic rules. Make sure you have a valid visa and driving license for travelers planning to drive in this beautiful country.
